Spitballing ideas as I’m not really sure yet what to do. In General terms I’m thinking a short film, maybe 5 min or so. In the short I’ll want to use 3d modeling, texturing, etc... and compositing with live footage. Subjects I’ve studied and have an affinity for doing.
1. Boy and his bot. I had the idea of doing a fun little short about a boy and his robot. Maybe starting with his father making it for him as a baby and showing little snippets of their adventures as the boy gets older. Playing hide and seek in the woods, the robot helping him fight bullies, etc.. I was kind of keen on this idea. however my wife pointed out the similarities to the movie "Ted". I've never seen the movie but a quick Wikipedia look up seems to agree with her. Although this is a student short to show off what I’ve learned, so I’m keeping this one on-deck.
2. Detox blows your mind. Best way to sum up this idea - a designer drug gives junkies going through withdrawal some type of super power. Say maybe they can make things explode! With a Bounty Hunter type guy hunting them down. Although as I type this I’m beginning to think of the movie "Scanners".
3. Don't you love me anymore? A short about a reality TV star waking up and being "erased" from the minds of almost everyone. Basically there is secret group that tries to stop reality tv and pseudo celebrities from continuing to be famous. Think of the A-Team taking out the Kardashians. The star tries to get their fame back. Not really sold on this one
4. So a kid gets into some type of accident, wakes up and has super powers. Can make things move with his mind, make people think certain thoughts, bend reality...Starts fighting crime.. turns out he is really in a coma.
That's kind of it for now. I'm going to keep working on ideas, as none of the above really strike my fancy.
To the question about inspiration.. I guess books by Philip K. Dick. Movies like Momento, Inception, Blade Runner, The Fountain and Shutter Island. I tend to enjoy works that play around with memories and reality.
Really those are just inspiration when talking about a story to tell. For inspiration on the visual side, companies such as Weta, MPC and ILM do amazing work. I just watched The Avengers and found their work for New York amazing. 90% of what you saw was created /constructed in 3d and Nuke.
Oh...I suggest you check out the T.V. show Misfits. Brilliant show from England. It's on Hulu and the LOGO cable channel. You can thank me later.

Is it bad of me that I think the second idea sounds awesome? I'm weird that way I guess...

the last idea about the guy in the coma, thinking he's fighting crime sounds like a pretty cool idea.
You have a lot of ideas! Do you have any idea of how you want to execute them? A game or a comic?
Btw, there's a few people out there looking for stories and/or artists

You have a lot of ideas, but is there a method that you wnated to use to execute them? Like a comic or a game? (Personally, I'm looking for artists and sound people)

Hey James,
I think the story of 3 is awesome and could be hilarious. However, I feel like 1 or 4 would really let you experiment with the tools you plan on using. Don't be afraid to go with 1 just because of Ted. I think you can pull it off in an original way. Plus it sounds like it would be fun to animate those robot interactions. This story is much more vivid in my head than the others are. Just my two cents.

I really liked your second/Detox idea. I was picturing addicts that become more powerful the stronger their withdrawal symptoms become. I envisioned them using these abilities to rob the drug lords and the cartel, or cartels, paying some grandmaster gun for hire to take care of their problem for a ridiculous fee. Maybe one addict possessing extreme discipline, able to maintain his abilities be regulating his cravings for the drug. He/she's the leader and the biggest threat to the hired gun.
Good Idea. I really could see it in my mind.
